Financial Coaching for Couples

Both of you in front of the same picture, ending in decisions you made together.

Why Couples Book

The Argument Is Rarely About the Number

Money is one of the most common reasons couples book a session, and most money arguments are not really about the numbers. They are two people running different rules that neither of them ever said out loud. One of you was raised to save first and ask later. The other was raised to enjoy it while it is here. Neither rule is wrong, and neither one was ever written down, so every purchase becomes a small negotiation about something else entirely.

Coaching gets the rules on the table. If you want the longer version of how that plays out, I wrote it up in handling finances as a couple without fighting. This page is about what the work itself looks like.

How It Works for Two

You Can Come Together, or One of You Can Start

There is no single right way in. What matters is that the structure fits how the two of you actually make decisions.

  • Come as a couple from the start, and we build one shared system from the first session
  • Or start on your own and bring your partner in once you have your own footing, which is often easier when one of you has been carrying the worry alone
  • We work shared goals directly: paying off debt, saving for a home, and aligning spending habits
  • How sessions are structured gets decided in your strategy session, so it works for both of you rather than for whoever booked
What You Leave With

An Agreement Instead of a Scoreboard

Sessions put you both in front of the same picture. That sounds small and it is usually the whole shift, because most couples have never seen their money laid out in one place at the same moment. Guessing stops being possible, which means the conversation stops being about whose memory of the last three months is right.

Each session ends with decisions you made together, and the next money conversation starts from that agreement rather than from a scoreboard. Over time that is what changes: not that you stop discussing money, but that discussing it stops costing you an evening.

This is coaching, not couples therapy. Money is emotional long before it is logical, so sessions do go into shame, avoidance, and the beliefs you each grew up around. The difference is where the conversation lands: you leave with steps to take this week rather than a diagnosis. If something surfaces that belongs with a licensed therapist, I will tell you.

I am a Certified Financial Coach with an M.Ed., not a CFP, a CPA, an attorney, or a registered investment adviser. I do not sell insurance, investment products, or securities, and I do not give investment advice. When a question needs a licensed professional, I will say so and work alongside the person you already trust.

Next Step

Start With a Conversation

Couples usually work with me through Financially Fierce 1:1 coaching, which is ongoing and built around one person or one couple. If you would rather have a fixed end date, the 90-Day Financial Freedom Jumpstart runs a structured reset instead.

Common Questions

Coaching for Couples FAQ

Common questions about working on money as two people

Getting Started as Two

What if only one of us wants to do this?

That is a common starting point and it is not a disqualifier. One person can change how money moves through a household, and the change is often what brings the other person to the table. What does not work is installing a system on someone who never agreed to it, which is usually why the last attempt did not stick.

We earn very differently. Does that change the work?

It changes the conversation, not the method. Unequal income usually shows up as an unspoken rule about who gets to decide, and that rule is the thing worth putting on the table. Coaching is not tied to an income range in the first place.

Do we have to combine our accounts?

No. Combined, separate, or some arrangement in between are all workable, and the right answer depends on how the two of you actually make decisions rather than on a rule someone else wrote. What matters is that both of you can see the whole picture, not that the money sits in one place.

What It Is Not

Is this couples therapy?

No. Money is emotional long before it is logical, so sessions do go into shame, avoidance, and the beliefs you each grew up around. The difference is where the conversation lands: you leave with steps to take this week rather than a diagnosis. If something surfaces that belongs with a licensed therapist, I will tell you.

Will you tell us who is right?

No, and that is not a dodge. Most money arguments are two reasonable rules colliding, not one person being wrong. Sessions end with decisions the two of you made together, which is what makes the next conversation start from an agreement rather than from a scoreboard.
What Clients Are Saying

Straight talk, practical tools, and support that lasts

When I met Sharon, I was walking in self-doubt. I was a master at talking myself out of going for what I wanted. I struggled in relationships and reacted to everything! I couldn't even imagine creating goals, much less reaching them. Sharon as my coach was like having a cheerleader on my shoulder, whispering "you've got this" all the time because she allowed me the space to figure out what was missing and go for it.

Before working with Sharon, I was struggling with saving money and my spending was all over the place. Half the time, I didn't even know where my money was going or what I was spending. Working with Sharon has allowed me to create an emergency fund and set goals that are so meaningful to me that I don't waver or get distracted when it comes to my money anymore. She helped me understand my options without making me feel guilty or ashamed of my situation. In two short months, I had a solid plan for paying off my debt, including paying off my house early, saving thousands in interest, and an emergency fund.

I decided to pursue coaching because I was feeling stuck. Because of this, I realized I needed to talk to someone who could provide an unbiased perspective of the things I was experiencing, while also not being afraid to hold me accountable for my actions. My friends recommended therapy, but I knew it wouldn't be the right fit for me. It wasn't until I suggested to a friend that we become accountability partners and the prospect fell flat that I realized I needed to find a way to become accountable for myself and my own actions. As a result of this, I decided to take the step to invest in myself and work with Sharon.

I had the privilege of being coached by Sharon and I can say that she is an exceptional coach. She listens attentively and provides sincere advice, always with my best interests at heart. Her ability to ask the right questions helps you find your own answers and discover new paths. Sharon genuinely cares about helping you reach your goals, offering a supportive and friendly hand along the way. I highly recommend Sharon to anyone looking for guidance and growth.

Sharon, you have been instrumental in helping me see not only what is possible, but what was holding me back. You have helped me uncover what years (and you know, it has been years) of therapy didn't touch. For the first time, I have money left at the end of the month AND all my bills are paid. No interest is being given away to a credit card, and I finally feel like retirement will be an option. But that isn't the best part.

The best part about investing in a coach is how confident I am with my money now and even more confident in how I communicate and advocate for myself.
